A Brief History of River Songs.

Charlie Maguire & Andrew Rist have been collaborating for over 20 years. They meet when Andrew moved into a house across the street from Charlie. They have been working together ever since. Each summer Ballet Minnesota performs River Songs all over the Twin Cities Area. River Songs has been performed at The History Center, Salo Park, Minnehaha Falls, St Anthony Falls, Washington County Fair, the State Fair, Woodbury Days, Hihgland Festival, The Fitzgerald Theater, O'Shaughnessy, the St Paul Student Center Theater and many more venues.

Charlie Maguire

Charlie has also been honored with many grants and awards, including a Bush Artist Fellowship and the New York Film and Television Festival Gold Award. He has been named a "Humanities Scholar" by the Minnesota Humanities Commission. He lectures throughout the region on the role of women in environmental history; and he is an adjunct professor of Language Arts at Hamline University in Saint Paul, teaching a course on songwriting. He has written for the Star Tribune (Minneapolis), and for All Things Considered and Options in Education, both on National Public Radio.

P lay Us A Waltz was one of the first songs of Charlie which Andrew Choreogarphed. It was commissioned by the MN Choreogerapher's Alliance to take on tour around the twin cities, Ely and Duluth, MN.

Later, the song became a featured dance in the full eveing ballet 'Black Dog Cafe'. Charlie perfomed the work as himself on the permiere.
